Picture Lock
The point at which edits to the visual sequence are frozen so finishing work can proceed.
What it means in practice
At picture lock, shot order, shot duration, and overall runtime are treated as approved and stable. Sound mixing, color grading, captions, graphics, and final quality checks can then align precisely to the fixed timeline.

Visual changes after picture lock can trigger repeated work across several finishing tasks and delay delivery.

The client approves picture lock before the post-production team completes audio, color, graphics, and final exports.
